The Operation is a Success ... When the Patient Dies
Following his forced retirement from an appalling rock band, Jason decides to vacation at Brittlehouse Manor, a health farm run by the leather-gloved, ex-Nazi scientist Dr. Storm. Along the way, Jason meets Judy, also on her way to Brittlehouse Manor to visit her aunt, who married Dr. Storm some years ago. Once they arrive, the pair realise rather quickly that something is wrong, probably because the other guests have had their brains surgically removed, or all the blood pouring from the sink, or possibly just because the creepy midget keeps telling them to brush their teeth.

Review by Tony the Terror ★★★
A fun little Hammer-esque horror that’s not actually Hammer and barely horror! Lots of comical bits keep this from being one to ever take seriously and that’s ok if you’re in the mood for that. There’s a great scene where a dwarf uses two guards who are passed out to help him reach the lock at the top of a door.
It’s not something I expect I’d pay full price for, but I’d pick it up for a decent bargain. The cinematography really is quite gorgeous.

Avant-garde filmmaker Balch's odd flirtation with comedy-horror was certainly novel, but marginally inspired. Harmless gallows humor with a fuzzy mad doctor/lobotomized hippie theme, it occasionally teases the rock & roll camp of "Rocky Horror," only to steer safely into restrained convention.

Brittlehurst Manor serves up a spa vacation our young songwriter protagonist, Jason Jones, just can’t turn away after meeting the head mistresses niece, Judy Peters! And she’s absolutely lovely.
Dr. Christian Storm is their host who boils up a spicy soup of narcissism with a sprinkle of vanity to make sure everyone is enjoying dinner at the large table before something atrocious occurs by his hands. All issues are resolved at the dinner table.
The viewer is hit with an almost awkward beginning and then thrust into a universe of absurdity where a lobotomy is the key to happiness…

The October 2022 70s Horror Extravaganza #12
"Don't forget to brush your teeth!"
After having had enough of managing a pretentious prog rock band, Jason (Robin Askwith) sees an advert for Hairy Holidays, breaks designed for under 30s. Needing a break, he visits the creepy business proprietor (Dennis Price) of Hairy Holidays, who sells him a week at Buttlehouse Manor Health Farm, sounds good. On the train journey he meets Judy (Vanessa Shaw) who is also heading to the Manor to meet with her long lost aunt. The two are picked up by silent sinister motorcyclists and transported to the Manor. There they encounter the less than friendly aunt (Ellen Pollock), dwarf servant Frederick (Skip Martin), helmeted orderlies and the…

Horror Hospital is a fun, intentionally campy 70s british exploitation feature with loads of fun, well-executed comedic elements, and gruesome moments! It is truly a masterpiece without even trying to be a masterpiece! Horror Hospital is very straight-to-the-point, and honest about what it is and what it's trying to be. Like I said, it is campy, but the movie seems to genuinely really embrace that very aspect! Not only is there some gore, and gratuitous nudity, but there's also a lot of artistic merit here to be appreciated! It can almost be considered ahead of its time!
All in all, if you're into campy, exploitation horror, I highly recommend Horror Hospital!

1973 In Review - May #8
Two British companions who met on a train heading to the rural countryside stay with a bizarre host of characters in a secluded, curious mansion. Unknown to them, there is a sinister secret behind closed doors.
A little obscure British movie that I never seen before and to be honest I had never even heard of. It stars Robin Askwith (appearing away from those awful 70’s sex comedies for once) as a guy wanting to go on a little country retreat away for some relaxation. What he ends up with is a place where they drug and lobotomise? their patients and are experimented on by a great Michael Gough is a wheelchair. The fun here is that it isn’t played as a horror or as a comedy, it’s a little in between. It’s certainly weird and cements my belief that British films were a lot more interesting in the 70’s.

It featured a man with an aggressive British accent that distracted me the whole time. Also this movie sucked <3
Review by JSlattery ★★★½
British sexploitation regular Robin Askwith meets sexy Vanessa Shaw on board a train, and it turns out they're both enroute to a remote luxury spa, Brittlehurst Manor. What they don't know is that the spa is merely a front for a mad scientist, Michael Gough, using brain surgery to create a race of zombie slaves. This daft British horror is fully aware of how ridiculous it is,and positively revels in its absurdity,it doesn't for a minute take itself seriously. Worth watching if nothing else for the gloriously silly, Monty Pythonish scene where a dwarf henchman..yes,of course there's a dwarf henchman..uses a couple of passed out guards as stepping stones to reach a door latch!? Would make a good double bill with 'Andy Warhols Frankenstein'!
Review by Grant McLanaghan
One would hope that a horror-comedy would have the good grace to fulfil at least one of its genre quotients. Unfortunately, this does not, partly because each scene runs approximately three times longer than is strictly necessary.
Review by Mark Costello ★★★
I honestly don't know if this is an actual film that people spent time and money on......or just the result of a late night dairy snack not sitting too well with me...…
A very odd and yet very charming mix of Hammer quantness (a huge house in the country is being used by a mad scientist to conduct mind control experiments on teenagers, its all bloodless, foggy marshes, histrionic score and Michael Gough looking like he's doing a very poor Dr Strangelove impression) and early '70s British film industry 'hipness' (Robin Askwith and his amazing dialogue including random f-bombs and such fromage-based classics as "don't be so uptight love, I'm not going to rape you" and "This is Abraham and…

It's not just the co-pays that'll kill you when you enter Horror Hospital!
Today on Pimp My Ride (UK Edition)
Yo dawg, I heard that you like severed heads, so I put a protracting blade and a basket on the side of your Rolls Royce so you can collect severed heads while you're out cruising with the boys!
A horror comedy that isn't particularly scary nor all that funny, Horror Hospital is a reasonably diverting and mildly amusing affair thanks to its likable young stars, globs of goopy gore effects and a game Michael Gough, playing a Bond villain before eventually morphing into one of the more memorable Batman villains. It's the sort of thing where the scariest sight is…
