Pick up your preferred folder from the pull-down list or type its path name. Autocomplete function can be used to ease typing.

Enter a file name or a path for the file. You can also enter a URL

Select the file format for the document that you are saving. In the display area, only the documents with this file type are displayed. File types are described in Information on Import and Export Filters .

To insert a movie or sound file into your document

Click where you want to insert the file.

If the icon is arranged on the background, hold down Command Ctrl while you click.

The Media Playback toolbar is shown.

Click Play on the Media Playback toolbar.

When you show an Impress presentation, the embedded sound or video on the current slide plays automatically until it's over or until you leave the slide.

You can also use the Media Playback bar to pause, to stop, to loop, as well as to adjust the volume or to mute the playback of the file. The current playback position in the file is indicated on the left slider. Use the right slider to adjust the playback volume. For movie files, the bar also contains a list box where you can select the zoom factor for the playback.

Supported media formats

LibreOffice relies on the operating system's installed media support.

For Microsoft Windows : LibreOffice can open anything for which DirectShow filters are installed ( list of default formats ).

For GNU/Linux : LibreOffice uses gstreamer , so whatever you can play using gstreamer can be used with LibreOffice ( list of defined types ).

For Apple macOS : LibreOffice uses QuickTime supported media formats ( list of media formats ).

Libre Office Impress media insert for complete presentation, not only slides

I'm using Ubuntu 16.04LTS. When I was making up a PowerPoint presentation in Impress, I couldn't figure out how to make a music selection play continously throughout the slide show.

It starts on the first slide but then stops and starts over again when the second slide presents and on down the line. I want to make this sound playing all the way continously. The "Help" file didn't make it clear how to do that.

I want to embed sound file into the presentation, so it can be put on a CD, then be used in another Linux computer also later.

  • Hi, Gary. What Impress are you using? Apache OpenOffice, LibreOffice... what version? 3, 4, 5? I guess it's LibreOffice 5.1.6, ok? –  Redbob Commented Sep 18, 2017 at 14:26

You can use the Slide Transition pane to set up Impress so that a sound or a song is played throughout the presentation. To do that:

  • Select the slide where you want the sound to start and go to the Slide transition pane.
  • In the 'Modify transition' section, select the entry 'Other sound' from the Sound drop-down menu.
  • Select the 'Loop until next sound' checkbox if you want the sound to restart once it is finished.

Do NOT click the 'Apply to all' button, otherwise your selected sound will restart at every slide.

If you just do slide transitions, nothing happens. You need to go to the 'View' and activate the sidebar, then it works.

  • TNX--I got it working for now--I was clicking the "Apply to all" and that was what was messing me up supposedly. –  Gary Commented Sep 19, 2017 at 1:00

OOoLilyPond

Include LilyPond music fragments into Office documents

latest release: 2024-11-19 09:05:05

Description

OOoLilyPond (OLy) is a LibreOffice/OpenOffice extension to include LilyPond music fragments in

  • text documents (Writer),
  • spreadsheets (Cald),
  • presentations (Impress) and
  • drawings (Draw).

Installation

  • Being a LibreOffice / OpenOffice extension, you need a version of LibreOffice / OpenOffice installed on your computer, first.
  • Second, the music engraving software LilyPond must be installed on your system.
  • Then just download the latest OLy release from the download page.
  • The extension can be installed either by opening it with LibreOffice or by following these steps in the menu:

Extras > Extension Manager… > Add…

and then choosing the downloaded extension file (.oxt).

Your toolbars in Writer, Calc, Impress and Draw should now have a new "OLy" button which launches the extension.

You can find a detailed documentation in the OOoLilyPond wiki .

LilyPond is a powerful musical typesetting software that compiles given source code into graphical output, just like LaTeX does with mathematical formulas.

OOoLilyPond enables you to enter LilyPond code from within your Office document. Both the resulting image and its source code will be embedded within the document. No need to keep any additional files other than the Writer/Draw/Impress document itself.

To create a new OLy object, just click the "OLy" button and an editor window will open. Enter some LilyPond code and click the "LilyPond" button. After successful compiling, the editor window will close and the resulting image will be visible in your document.

To edit an existing object, select it first and then click the "OLy" button. In the editor window you will have access to your code again.

If you want to get to know LilyPond, a good place to start is the introduction into LilyPond.

Compatibility

OOoLilyPond (OLy) works with recent versions of LibreOffice and OpenOffice. Older versions should work as well. It has even been tested with OpenOffice 2.4 without issues.

Update: Some partial incompatibilities have occured in LibreOffice 6.1.0 to 6.1.4 - see Issue 22 .

Any content (LilyPond code, templates, OLy configuration files) created with/for older OLy versions (OLy 0.3.x, OLy 0.4.x, OLy 0.5.x) will work with OLy 1.0.x, but not necessarily vice versa.

COMMENTS

  1. How do I add music tracks to an impress slide show?

To add "background" music — In the View menu select Slide Transition. In the transition sidebar window, Modify Transition - Sound. For a music track select Other sound . . . and a file explorer dialog window comes up where you can locate the desired music file. You can also select the option to Loop until the next sound.

  2. How to play a music file in an Impress Presentation

Every sound file you ever add will show up in the "Sound" drop list. The only way I found to remove them was to replace the files in \AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\4\user\gallery with a set from a fresh installation of LibreOffice. The "Sound" list shows only the name of the file, not including the extension.

  3. How to add music to an entire Impress presentation?

Whereas in Powerpoint you can insert a sound and make it play across as many slides as required, Impress does not work the same way. Instead of Insert_Audio, you must open the required slide transition (the first slide, if you want music to play throughout) by Slide-Slide_Transition, click on the sound pull-down, select Other_sound, and choose your music file.

  4. How to play music during a slide show

The files with extension"ppt" are not native Apache OpenOffice/LibreOffice Impress files. If you using opensource office suites, you must ALWAYS save your documents into NATIVE (ODF) formats. If you need another formats, make a COPY of the original documents into the foreign format(s). Nevertheless, possible to: it is a bug.

  5. Audio or Video
