Do you love music , especially opera? Do you wish to one day create your own unique version of Opera? So what are you waiting for without trying to play Blob Opera right away? This game will help you create your own amazing opera with realistic sound in a very interesting and funny way.

Blob Opera is an online skill and music game. This game was developed by David Li in collaboration with Google Arts & Culture. What makes this game special and unique is that it uses a machine learning model trained on the voices of four opera singers to create an interactive experiment that anyone can enjoy, regardless of musical skill .

The actual vocals

Tenor Christian Joel, bass Frederick Tong, mezzo-soprano Joanna Gamble, and soprano Olivia Doutney are four opera singers who recorded 16 hours of singing. You won't hear their voices, but the machine-learning model's understanding of the sound of an operatic voice is based on what it learns from them.

Since then, the sound in Blob Opera has become more real and lively. At the same time, this also helps players easily create a great opera. You will be free to create the music you love. There will be no rules or limits for you to create.

How To Play

Your task in Blob Opera is to create an opera by controlling funny  and colorful blobs . This game is extremely simple and easy to play. You just need to follow the initial instructions that the game shows up on the screen. Drag the mouse so the cute blobs can reach certain pitches in the music and make the best notes possible. Let's be creative and control those blobs according to your musical taste. The higher you drag the blobs , the more distinctive the sound they make. Alternatively, you can stretch the blobs to make the sound louder and clearer.

Blobs and it’s stage

As mentioned, Blob Opera's machine learning model is based on the actual vocals of four opera singers, so there will always be four blobs appearing to help you create a wonderful and unique opera. You can choose a place to perform for these blobs , or easier to understand, choose a stage to perform for them.

Blobbera House and London, UK, are attractive locations that most players often choose. Or New York and Mexico City are also other great and interesting places for you to change the atmosphere for your operas. Each location will have epic stages for the mischievous blobs to perform.

R ecording time

Once you've perfected the art of opera, use the record button at the bottom left of the screen to record your performance, then share the results with your friends! You may have also noticed the option that gives your creation a festive vibe in the lower right corner.

To alter the pitch, move the blobs up and down. Or go backwards and forwards for various vowel sounds. Thanks to another machine learning model, the blobs are able to react to and harmonize your input in real time.

Blob Opera is definitely a refreshing music game that will make you enjoy the opera you have created yourself. You are free to create the music you love. There will be no rules or limits for you to create, so what are you waiting for? Join the game now.

  • Actual opera voices were used to create
  • Create epic music without musical training.
  • A variety of vocal harmonies and approaches
  • Character depictions are distinct and lifelike and fantastic sound
  • Can decide on the performance's setting and music
  • Make a recording and let your friends see the outcomes
  • No need to adhere to tight regulations
  • Librely compose operatic music
  • There is unlimited playtime

  • Blob Opera: Duel of Fates
  • Blob Opera: Halo Theme Tune

Types of Users

To make it easy for anyone to compose good opera, Blob Opera uses an actual voice-based machine learning model. Specifically, the vocals of four opera singers are: Tenor, Christian Joel, bass Frederick Tong, mezzo-soprano Joanna Gamble, and soprano Olivia Doutney. That's why this game can be played by anybody. Even people who don't know anything about music.

Try out Google’s strangely mesmerizing Blob Opera – and don’t say I never got you anything for Christmas

December 24, 2020 By Michael Perrigo View Comments

chrome experiments opera

Google’s Chrome Experiments are among some of the best and most creative instances where we see the open web at its strongest. Particularly in the Google Arts and Culture scene, they’ve placed a lot into crafting unique experiences that you can enjoy just by clicking on a link. Their latest experiment is no different – it’s a blob opera. Wait, what?

Yep, a handful of blobs who sing opera in varying pitches and tones based on how you drag them around. Forward and backward gives you different vowels while up and down change their pitch. The purple blob on the right is your bass, the teal one is your tenor, the green one is your mezzo-soprano and lastly, the red one is your soprano. All of this is done with machine learning because that’s why these experiments exist in the first place – to test the limits of what can be done through the Chrome browser with code.

Chrome Experiments is a showcase of work by coders who are pushing the boundaries of web technology, creating beautiful, unique web experiences. You’ll find helpful links throughout the site for creating your own experiments, and you can also explore resources like WebGL Globe and our workshop of tools.

Blob Opera is oddly satisfying to listen to on repeat. You don’t have to know anything about music to make it sound good either because Google does it for you with that machine learning I mentioned. What’s particularly awesome and the reason I’m telling you about this little “game” today is that they’ve added a toggle on the bottom right of the screen that drops Christmas hats onto your blobs and makes snow begin to fall around them. Then, a music player appears to the left of that toggle that allows you to play pre-recorded Christmas carols for your blobs to sing on repeat.

chrome experiments opera

Most of them are good enough to become background noise – assuming Opera doesn’t hurt your ears. I personally kind of like it, especially Silent Night. Anyway, you can record your own little musical too if you want using the record button on the bottom left of the screen. You can then share it with your friends and family as a simple link. It’s a neat little bit of enjoyment for Christmas Eve, I think, and the kids may even love it while they try to pass the excruciatingly long day that they consider an obstacle to opening presents. Okay, go have fun with it or annoy someone who doesn’t like opera – just don’t say I never got you anything!

Create a festive song with Blob Opera

[[read-time]] min read

Still looking for that perfect present? Why not gift a festive song? Blob Opera is a new machine learning experiment by artist David Li that lets you create your own festive song inspired by Opera on Google Arts & Culture.

Guide the pitch and vowel sound of our four festive blobs who stand ready to transform your musical ideas (no matter how good or bad) into beautiful harmonies. Record your creation and share it with family & friends, especially the person who already seems to have everything — you can be sure this will be their first Blob Opera.

Create a song with Blob Opera

This experiment pays tribute to and explores the original musical instrument: the voice. We developed a machine learning model trained on the voices of four opera singers in order to create an engaging experiment for everyone, regardless of musical skills. Tenor, Christian Joel, bass Frederick Tong, mezzo-soprano Joanna Gamble and soprano Olivia Doutney recorded many hours of singing. In the experiment you don’t hear their voices, but rather the machine learning model’s understanding of what opera singing sounds like, based on what it learned from the opera singers.

The resulting experiment allows you to play Blob Opera , altering pitch & vowel sounds to create your own composition. The blobs respond and harmonise to your input in real time. But no worries if you’re feeling a bit too shy to compose: You can also have the Blobs put on a festive performance while you sit back and enjoy classics like “Jingle Bells” and “O Holy Night.”

The creative holiday fun doesn’t end there. Google Arts & Culture has also created holiday-themed virtual colouring books. Find them the next time you search on Google for winter holidays like "Hanukkah," "Christmas" and "Kwanzaa."

Coloring Books will add some additional color to your holidays

Go on this never-ending holiday through France, Italy and Spain.

Blob Opera

Tenor, Christian Joel, bass Frederick Tong, mezzo-soprano Joanna Gamble and soprano Olivia Doutney recorded many hours of singing that helped to create the Blob Opera.

Or venture a bit farther afield with another machine learning experiment, “ The Never-Ending Holiday .” These computer-generated, surrealist-inspired short videos use Google Maps and Street View data to offer mesmerizing explorations of France, Italy and Spain. With travel restrictions in place and winter keeping many of us indoors, they can take you on a journey to famous landmarks and distant shorelines.
