I remember the day as if it were yesterday. My mother and I were in the car on our way to a family member’s house- just like any other day. We were driving down the main road in my town when the car was t-boned by another car that had run a red light. Our Honda Accord was smashed to pieces in the middle of the intersection. My mother was bleeding and the front of the car had crashed on top of my legs- I couldn’t feel either leg, but at the same time, tremendous pain shot through my body, not to mention fear. I looked over at the car that hit us and it was just as demolished- the front of the car was smoking; honestly, I feared that one of the vehicles might combust.

I tried to get out of my vehicle, but I could not open the door. The impact from the crash caused too much damage and my injured mother and I had no choice but to wait for the EMTs to arrive to help us get out of the vehicle.

Several cop cars, two ambulances and a fire truck rushed to the scene. The doors to our car were pried open with the jaws of life as the man who hit us was placed onto a gurney and lifted into the ambulance. I don’t know what his condition was, but if it even paled in comparison to the way his car looked after the accident, he was in serious medical condition.

When my mother was removed from our vehicle, she was treated by EMS workers for cuts and scrapes associated with the accident, but the EMS technicians said that she would be fine. I wasn’t as lucky.

When the doors on my side of the car were pried away, it revealed to the medical help that I had broken at least one of my legs, if not both. I was carefully removed from the vehicle and placed in a wheelchair then brought to the ambulance. The EMTs drove me to the local hospital where they took X-rays of both of my legs.

I waited anxiously in my bed for the results of the X-rays as the nurses cleaned up my cuts from the shattered glass. My mother sat by my bedside praying over me, but most of me was just thankful that I was the one in the hospital bed instead of her.

The doctor came into the room with my X-ray results. As an athlete and an overall busy person who relies on my legs heavily, I feared for the worst. Luckily, it could have been worse. The doctor revealed to me that I shattered my right knee but that my left leg did not break in the impact. Although I would have to undergo intense surgery and physical rehabilitation to repair my right knee, the doctor assured me that I would be walking fine again within several months. It wasn’t the greatest news I had ever received, but through my eyes, my mother and I were okay, and I was grateful.

The accident changed me. The surgery was difficult but I got through it with the support of my family. I may have walked out of the hospital with a broken right knee, but I also carried with me a greater appreciation for my family, as well as my life. In the accident I realized the preciousness of every moment and ultimately the car crash changed my life for the better.

Since the accident I have become closer to God, my family and my friends. I understand the importance of what true love is and what it means to savor each moment. My rehabilitation for my knee might have been a physical healing process, but I also went through an emotional rehabilitation, where my spirit healed from the accident.

I could have died that day. Worse, I could have lost my best friend and my mother that day. I carry the accident with me in my mind every day- it is my constant reminder to cherish life and appreciate every moment. I have a set of rosary beads that I know hang off the rear view window of my own car, as my personal reminder of that day. When I look at those beads, I think of my mother, I think of God, and I am truly grateful for being where I am today.

For a long time I struggled to look at my glass as half full after the accident. I wanted reasons for questions that had no answers. Why us? Why me? Why my knee? For months I took those questions and fostered them into hostility.

Today is different though. Today I carry my scars like badges of honor. Yes I did get in a horrible car accident, and here I am today. Clearly I wasn’t meant to die that day- and I know that ultimately I am on this earth to serve a larger purpose. Instead of being ashamed of my scars, today I look at them as markers of strength- proof that I can overcome anything. That accident may have broken my knee but it didn’t break my spirit. If anything, it made my spirit stronger and helped me get to where I am today.

The accident: a short story, the accident      every once and awhile i'll look back on my life, and i'll laugh. particularly at the times i spent with my best friend nate and all the mischief we, caused. i look back now and i think what the hell were we doing how did we not die have you, ever sat down and had a conversation with a male teen between the ages of 14–17 i should've been, locked away for that period of my life, i swear i was temporarily insane. i had no concept of, "consequences" or "repercussions". i did whatever, whenever. unfortunately, this little package of immaturity also came with other misleading thoughts such as a sense of, invincibility, a total disregard for any authority, and taking pretty much.. more content..., it was a cool summer night. i was hanging out with nate, bored as usual, when jeff stopped by with, some interesting news. "an abandoned stretch of 95" he said with excitement. "i, found where it is this morning." without second thoughts nate and i hopped into my car and, followed jeff to what he had promised to be a "great time".,      we drove through a well hidden, off road trail and finally, arrived. it was everything we had hoped for. two lanes of perfectly straight asphalt that stretched, about a mile to a mile and a half. so what else are three immature guys to do race. nate and i, buckled our safety belts (a life saving maneuver) as jeff pulled up next to us. with his fingers he, slowly signaled 1–2–3. i stomped on the gas. i heard my four exhaust pipes roar, the engine, growling, almost beast–like, then the tires screeched in compliance as our car jumped forward and, took off, leaving a cloud of smoke behind while nate approvingly yelled, hooting and hollering with, every loud sound the car was emitting.      in about three seconds i, had caught up with jeff, in about three more seconds he was two dots in my rear view mirror. i, remember seeing complete blackness and then branches from what i came to find out was a large, dead tree. i cut the wheel hard, not knowing where we were about to go next. i hit the, get more content on studyhub, a day i was hit by a car essay, odell armwood, com 499 independent study, dr. robert harrison, "in life, there are times when we choose our challenges and other times when the challenges simply, choose us – travis roy. i don't remember what happened to me, i was told i was hit by a car. i was, placed in a medically induced coma, for a month. slowly, the doctor lowered the sedatives to see, how i can breathe on my own, within six weeks everything was removed. i woke up; there were, family and friends around my hospital bed. i was confused because i had no idea what happened., mom and uncle ray told me stories about how angry i was and would try to get out of bed. i am, still angry because i have not come in person with the person that changed my life around in just a, few seconds. mom told me, "forgive." i'm not there yet. i'm sure one day i will but for right now i, have to focus on my career. there are times when i'm depressed and don't want to be bothered. i just, want to walk again. i'm thankful i have been given a second chance at life. i'm grateful for the host, of family and friends whom supported me through prayers, emotionally, morally and financially. i, know it was the grace of god, and my will to live. as far as my career goals; there are two areas in, which i would exercise my communication skills in: basketball coaches or deaf service specialist., what inspires and motivates me the most is sports. i love basketball. during my times on the field i, thought about nothing but winning for our, short story on a car accident, jimmy is out with friends at the movies theater. the movie ends at 10 o'clock and his curfew is, 10:30 pm. his friends want to go get food after the movies so they did. while on the way there a car, accident happened that slowed down traffic for a little bit. they finally got to the restaurant to eat at, 10:45. they went in, sat down, talked, ate some food and then left. when jimmy was pulling into, his driveway he looks at the clock and sees that it is 12:30 am. he knew he was late; his parent is, going to kill him for being this late. when walking into the door he closes it back quietly and starts, to walk up the stairs but then the kitchen lights turn on. jimmy looks over and sees his mom and dad, sitting at the table waiting for him. knowing that he is about to get yelled at he forms a story in his, head. as soon as his father asks why he was so late jimmy starts to tell the story. "it was so crazy., when i was on my way back there was a horrible accident. it happened right in front of me. both, cars were totaled there was nothing left of them really. no one was badly injured but we had to wait, for them to get out of the car to start the flow of traffic. i was sitting there for almost an hour. i was, so traumatized by seeing the accident that on the way back i drove the car so slow and carefully as i, could." during the entire time of jimmy telling the story, he makes sure to have a scared face on and, to sound very convincing. when he finishes his parents have a very sincere, car accident accidents, have you suffered from the trauma of being involved in one of the many accidents that happen each, day in your area by seeking out the best auto accident lawyer available, you have taken an, important first step. an attorney you can trust is invaluable after experiencing an accident. guidance, along the way will give you peace of mind as you recover your health, as you repair your damaged, property, and as you reclaim your life., the greater washington area will see car accidents by the hundreds in this month alone. these, accidents are not always typical. a car may be involved many types of accidents, such as an accident, another passenger vehicle, a commercial truck, another kind of vehicle (for example, an rv, bus, train, trailer, motorcycle, road maintenance, vehicle, or agricultural equipment), a person on a bicycle, a pedestrian, a structure, you are going to want lawyers, who have extensive experience and knowledge of the relevant laws,, working diligently for you. when you call the law offices of needaninjuryattorneydc,, you will speak with car accident attorneys washington, d. knows can be relied upon with, confidence. our legal experts are ready to assist you in recuperating any money you have lost as a, result of an unexpected accident., everyone who has been involved in a car accident has been through a traumatic ordeal. whether you, were not at fault or the accident was caused by your actions, it is certain you have undergone, essay about causes of car accidents, causes of car accidents car accidents can happen to drivers anytime, anywhere. ",, (nhtsa, auto–accident–resource). among the car accidents, the teenage group is the only age, group who is number of deaths is increasing instead of decreasing. also, all the people are exposed, to risk and actually every one of them has got car.. more content..., when a cell phone is used while driving, it distracts the attention of the driver, leading to car, accidents. while using a cell phone many people tend to miss traffic signals, because they are not, really concentrating on driving. the process of dialing or answering the phone can make them lose, control of the vehicle as well. even though the driver is looking at the road, he or she can easily get, distracted by the conversation. this can result in fatal accidents. third reason of accidents on the, road is teenage drivers. "2,739 teenagers died in car accidents in the united states during 2008 ",, (drivesteady). some teenagers cause fatal accidents, because of immaturity and lack of, experience. teenagers are very impulsive. although not intending to hurt anyone, they sometimes, drive very aggressively. it is not difficult to find teenagers driving with one hand on the steering, wheel, seat pushed back, and with loud music playing. in traffic they go wild, trying to seek, attention. they underestimate the risk of what they are doing. all these acts result in serious, consequences on the road. many accidents of young drivers result from their own mistakes. in, conclusion, many people do not realize that being intoxicated while driving, using cellular phones, and teenage drivers may bring serious injuries to everybody. some people may enjoy drinking, without care until they get into car accident, which can even result in, newtons of force. the higher μ is, the more force resists motion if two objects are sliding past each.

Essays on Car Accident

Faq about car accident.

College essay on fatal accident?

Three of my closest friends were involved in an accident that received nationwide coverage (including the court trials and everything). The reason why this topic is particularly complicated is because the three friends survived and the person who came under died. The accident was the result of a steering lock at a turn in the road. The car was crushed to the point that the steering malfunction could not be investigated and the driver was taken to jail. I was informed through a vague call. Me and a few other friends spent the night looking for the 3 friends with very little and ambiguous information (due to confidentiality) on one of the most central roads in the city surrounded by pedestrians, policemen, army men, and the press. Looked in hospitals and homes of friends and families, trying to make calls, asking pedestrians who were threatening violence to anyone who knew those inside the car. It was a very difficult day, but the days that followed were even more difficult. I can write volumes about it but I can’t decide on what message I want to convey. The event changed us and our environment. But it’s such a risky topic particularly because I am close to the person who was declared guilty of murder without intent. What do you think?

Is there any way to make the situation vague despite the fact that it received national coverage?

I think it could make for a compelling essay, though the key will be making sure it’s still about you, not about your friend(s). I assume it gave you a different perspective on things like justice, life/death, etc. Personally I’d go all out and be pretty bold–why make it vague? If you lead with the line “My best friend was convicted of murder.” (or whatever) I would be glued to the essay (as long as the rest was good/about you lol).

The one thing I would caution: you clearly believe in your friend, for good reason I’m sure, but every case has nuance. Especially if a steering defect can’t be proven (ie: it’s conjecture), I wouldn’t make the central thesis of your essay about injustice if there is ANY grey area at all in the case. ie: if there was any DUI/drugs/reckless behavior involved (most vehicular homicide convictions do…), it’s not a good leg to stand on. Which, again, falls under: make it about you; make sure it reflects well on you.

@proudterrier I totally agree with your advice. Writing an essay centred around an accident that did not involve me and making it about myself is my main dilemma. I definitely do not want to put the perspective on justice. In fact, I don’t plan on mentioning the trial and legal stuff at all because I live in a country that is corrupt and has a legal system full of loopholes. The friend walked out after a week with no criminal record because the country allows for financial compensation (the friend paid in millions). I already belong to the class that is favoured by the justice system here so I can’t really crib about that. If not injustice, what else could I make this about? I feel that “discovering a new meaning for life” and all that jazz would be cliche. Should I just scratch the idea?

Is there a way to focus on just one narrow aspect of the situation and use that to reveal more about yourself? It could be too easy to get lost in the details of trying to recount the whole story which would just distract the reader’s attention from the objective of the essay.
